Lethbridge Sky's
I have found myself increasingly fascinated with the sky lately. I am not too sure why this is, I think coming from Calgary to living in Lethbridge is a big change in atmosphere. I am not sure why it's so prominent this year, however, as it is my second year back. There is such a different feeling here, and it's partially because the land is stretched out and you can see so much of it, including the sky. I am living in the last townhouse on the very edge of the coolies, and it really feels like a whole other world out there sometimes. So, for my archive I am doing a bunch of different drawings of the sky. I honestly view the clouds and colors and layers as paintings, and as cheesy as it sounds it feels like I am living inside of one. It is so important to appreciate everyday things in life we don't really think about otherwise.
I wish I could have dedicated more time to my drawings and their overall presentation. That being said, I did enjoy experimenting with different mediums and styles of drawing. I did a few digitally, which was very interesting. I liked digital drawings for this specific assignment as I could get very bright, saturated colors easily. I also could make interesting marks within the sky zoomed in, and upon zooming out it blends to look like a more normal sky. On a few, I used a very thin amount of Vaseline on watercolor paper in the shape of clouds. This way, I could cover the whole page with whatever sky I wanted and the clouds would be left white, as the Vaseline acted like a barrier.
